Mike’s Ministry:

 From Murray
At our PCC meeting on Saturday Peter (our treasurer) let us know that from his figures so far this year, giving is down again on last year.  Last year, it was down on the year before, and we only just managed to balance the books through people’s additional generosity at the Gift Day in the autumn.  This year, our Parish Share (the amount we pay for my ministry and the support of the Diocese) has gone up again as the Diocese try to balance their books without reducing the number of clergy too much.

At the PCC I shared how the news of our problems had hit me when Peter gave us a preview of the figures at Standing Committee.  The next day I came across just the right passage in my bible reading, which encouraged me to trust in God for our needs.  Here at St Paul’s we can look back and see the way God has been faithful to us in similar difficult times during the reordering project.  As God has been faithful to us in the past, so he will be faithful to us in the future.

This flowed on to a very fruitful discussion about ways we as a PCC might be able to take more of a lead in the way we work together as a church.
