THIS WEEK - CAROLS AT THE CROSS SCYTHES
Tom and Sophie who now run the Cross Scythes want us to take part in a carols evening in Wednesday 19th December from 7.30 pm – you might have seen the advert in Active8! A friend of mine has been doing evenings like this for a few years over at the Greystones and this is where Tom and Sophie were before.  They want to make it a really nice evening with mulled wine and even some free mince pies!  They also want to do a raffle which will be split three ways, they have a charity which they support and the other two parts will be split between a charities that Mount View and we support.  Murray suggested that our part should go to the three organisations we support in Zimbabwe.  The pub would like us to bring bottles etc. for the raffle and they will contribute some from the brewery.  Richard Wilshaw from Mount View and Murray will 'compere' the evening -  perhaps doing one slot each -  with a gap in between to refill our glasses.  It will probably end around 9.00 pm.  Music will be provided by members of our Worship Group and all singers will be welcome! This is a really important part of our mission as a church to our local area.

FOOD BANK We are still collecting food donations for the Food Bank based at Gleadless. There’s a box at the back of church for food and thanks to all who’ve given.

CHRISTMAS SERVICES Please take leaflets for your family, friends & neighbours – there are plenty on the table in the Meeting Place

CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL/FAYRE  A huge thank you to all who gave time and worked so hard to support this event or decorate a tree for their group. To £600 has been raised for Talbot School & St Paul’s.

NEXT QUARTER’S CHURCH ROTA If you have messages regarding absences or holidays during the next quarter (Jan – Mar 2013) please put them in writing – a note or email is fine. It’s also helpful if you’re involved with any groups that meet here, if you can give Joan a list of next year’s meeting dates again in writing – a note or email is fine please, to save her having to count them all out for the new diary.
Thank you.

SHEILA AND DAVE GILL are hoping to be with us again this evening if you missed seeing them last week.

NEWS OF OUR COMMUNITY
BISHOPS’ HOUSE On Sunday 16th December at 2 pm, the Friends of Bishops’ House would be delighted to welcome you for their annual sing-along of carols.

CRIME PREVENTION There is a copy of Crime Prevention Initiative Magazine with safety tips, smart phone security, information on how to protect your home etc. on the Meeting Place coffee table.

ZEST Please see the poster at the foot of the stairs for “Zest” an NHS service for overweight children in Sheffield, providing support, guidance and advice to families with children aged 7-15 years who are above a healthy weight or phone 270 2040 to find out more.

Prayer Focus:

We continue to  pray for all who have been bereaved or are ill and those who care for them

From Murray
I have just got back from our Carol Service at Holmwood.  As usual the dining room where we meet was decked out for Christmas and I was all ready with the music and a good number of Carol Sheets – but Konrad kept appearing with more and more people!  In the end we had to get some more sheets printed, and still more people came in!  I have never seen so many residents and a good number of relatives too.  There were about ten of us from St Paul’s which was a great help.  Konrad had even organised a choir of residents who had been practicing the carols last week!  It was such a great occasion!

Next I am looking forward to our own main Carol Service with Mike, Mark and Claire hopefully performing a short sketch (we used it about six years ago, but it is well worth seeing again!).

Then we have carols at the Cross Scythes – a new venture I am really looking forward to!  What a great season of the year!

From Murray
I am just back from taking part in Enid’s funeral.  It was very poignant and emotional at times, but also a tremendous affirmation of her faith and determination.  I was so proud of St Paul’s in the way that so many people took part and used their gifts in ways that made it such a wonderful celebration.  (And talking of celebrations – it was wonderful to have members of the old Celebration Choir with us which seemed to make difference to the hymns which we sung.)

I had to cut down the text that Enid had left for us to use in the service but it would be well worth reading the full version – do ask Andy for a print out or get hold of a copy as it does the rounds.
