CAROLS AT THE CROSS SCYTHES
Tom and Sophie who now
run the Cross Scythes want us to take part in a carols evening in Wednesday 19th
December from 7.30 pm – you might have seen the advert in Active8! A friend of
mine has been doing evenings like this for a few years over at the Greystones
and this is where Tom and Sophie were before.
They want to make it a really nice evening with mulled wine and even some
free mince pies! They also want to do a raffle which will be split three
ways, they have a charity which they support and the other two parts will be
split between a charities that Mount View and we support. Murray
suggested that our part should go to the three organisations we support in Zimbabwe.
The pub would like us to bring bottles etc. for the raffle and they will
contribute some from the brewery. Richard Wilshaw from Mount View and Murray
will 'compere' the evening - perhaps
doing one slot each - with a gap in
between to refill our glasses. It will
probably end around 9.00 pm. Music will
be provided by members of our Worship Group and all singers will be welcome! This is a really important part of our
mission as a church to our local area.
Please put Wednesday 19th December at
7.30 in your dairy and come to help us sing!
And bring something for the raffle if you can!!
FOOD BANK
we are still collecting food donations for the Food Bank based at Gleadless. There’s
a box at the back of church for food items and thanks to all who’ve given.
CHRISTMAS SERVICES Please take leaflets for your family, friends and
neighbours – there are plenty on the table by the folding notice board in the
Meeting Place. Also, why not invite
someone to a service – the Carol Service on 16th would be a good
one!
CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL/FAYRE A huge thank
you to all who gave time and worked so hard to support this event or decorate a
tree for their group. To date a fantastic £600 has been raised for Talbot
School & St Paul’s.
Mon 3rd – Coit Primary
Wed 5th – Windmill Hill Junior
Thurs 6th – Porter Croft Primary
Prayer Focus:
We continue to pray for all who have been bereaved or are ill and all
who care for them
From Murray
I am
just back from taking part in Enid’s funeral.
It was very poignant and emotional at times, but also a tremendous
affirmation of her faith and determination.
I was so proud of St Paul’s in the way that so many people took part and
used their gifts in ways that made it such a wonderful celebration. (And talking of celebrations – it was
wonderful to have members of the old Celebration Choir with us which seemed to
make difference to the hymns which we sung.)
I had
to cut down the text that Enid had left for us to use in the service but it
would be well worth reading the full version – do ask Andy for a print out or get
hold of a copy as it does the rounds.
