ENVELOPES FOR FOCUS Now available so that we can support Focus Service – please see Peter F.

THANKSGIVING ENVELOPES are now ready for collection from the back of church.

M.U. The Mothers’ Union has a petition that they would like us to consider, concerning the commercialisation and sexualisation of children.  Further details are on the notice board and the petition is on the table at the back of church

MALCOLM & MERYL The Christmas letter from Malcolm & Meryl is on the MP Notice Board for those who would like to catch up on their news.

TREFOIL GUILD With regret, Trefoil at St Paul’s has had to close owing to a lack of members.

THANK YOU KEN!  A big thank you to Ken and his team of helpers who brought the chairs up from the basement for the big Carol Services and took them down again. Thanks to Pete for all the time spent scrubbing clean the basement chairs too. (If you were not there at the services we had great numbers as usual – about 300 for the Family Carol Service on Christmas Eve!)

Ken has also worked wonders with the big cross and candle sticks which we used to use a lot, but found that the colours they were painted did not go with our new colour scheme after the reordering.  Ken has stripped them down and varnished them and they now look superb – even better close up, so have a wander up to the chancel altar and have a look for yourself!

MEERSBROOK PARK UNITED REFORM CHURCH has arranged a concert entitled ‘Celebration of Faith’ by the United Christian Voices Choir, which includes some former members of the now disbanded Celebration Choir. The concert is to help them raise funds for fixtures and fittings for their lovely new Church and will be held on Saturday 29th January at 7.00 pm in the new premises. Please see posters around St Paul’s for further details.

UNITY PRAISE  Will be on January 23rd this year at 6.00 pm at the new Meersbrook Park Church.  This is the service we hold each year to mark the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.  It is always a very special service as we share Communion together.  Of course it will also be a good chance (the first for me) of seeing the wonderful new building!

THANK YOU Murray and Ann would like to thank people for their cards and good wishes over Christmas – they mean a lot!

Mike’s Ministry
No engagements this week
(A well earned rest after preaching three Sundays in a row at St Paul’s over Christmas – thanks very much Mike!)

Prayer Focus:
Jessie, Barbara, Pat,
Pete’s Dad, Hazel, Robert,
Murray & family, Peter,
Michael, Sadie, Doug,
Dorothy moving to Tapton Court Nursing Home,
Pauline now recovering well
Enid and Andy for the loss of Mam.

Pray also for Roger and his family and friends, following the sad loss of his wife Margaret,
Sue, whose Mum, Josephine, died last month

From Murray’s Diary
Over Christmas Radio 7 has broadcast a number of C S Lewis Narnia stories – I have managed to listen to a few of them (some up to 4 hours long!) and found them very moving and inspiring.  Lewis has a wonderful way of weaving deep truths of the Christian faith into his stories and there is a lot to learn about how we can remain faithful to God in the midst of the pressures of life.  I hear that the Nativity series on TV was also excellent – but I have not caught up with that yet (I am hoping that we managed to record it!)
