From Murray
Our new evening service – called Vine Time got off to a great start Sunday 29th – there were about 16 of us!  The service was very informal with plenty of opportunity for people to share thoughts, bible readings and to suggest songs for us to sing.  The dates of the next few services are:
June 17th and July 15th at 6.00 pm
Because Focus Church have their service every fortnight, the exact Vine Time Sundays will vary through the year - watch this space!
Thank you to everyone who made the 10 am. Pentecost service so special.  It was a great privilege to anoint and pray with so many people and I had a real sense that God was at work in significant ways through this way of praying.
Anointing is an ancient way of praying.  In the letter of James he says: “If you are sick, ask the church leaders to come and pray for you. Ask them to put olive oil on you in the name of the Lord.”  But it was not just used in praying for people who were ill.  In the Old Testament kings, prophets and priests were anointed with oil at the beginning of their ministry – it was a way of praying that they should be empowered for the new ministry they were to begin.  You may remember that Samuel poured a flask of oil lover the head of David to signify that God was calling him to be king – even though it was a long time before he was able to succeed Saul.
We may like to have prayer and anointing at other times of the year than just Pentecost.  It seemed to fit in well in the context of Communion and did not cause too much disruption to the service.
Thanks too to Liz Edwards for her magnificent threefold flower arrangement!
