CHRISTIAN AID WEEK  12-18 MAY 2013 ADVANCE NOTICE: Please keep this week free in your diaries! We collected
£1355.60 last year from local house to house collections.  There will be fewer collectors this year but we will have a Christian Aid ‘Quiz Aid’ on Tuesday 14th May 7.30 pm at the Cross Scythes.  Please think and pray about how you can help. Contact Helen Franklin on 2554441 if you’d like more information.

NEXT WEEK! CHRISTIAN AID MAY DAY TREK: As part of our church’s support for Christian Aid week, there is an opportunity to participate in the Sheffield May Day Trek on Monday May 6th. This is a sponsored walk with options to walk 5, 10 or 15 miles, starting at Bolsterstone Village Hall. Please contact Peter Franklin for more details or if you are interested in joining the trek. Transport to and from Bolsterstone can be arranged if required.
NOTICES If you have items for the church notice sheet, please put them in writing or email them to the office by 10.00 am on Wednesday. Thank you

LAST REMINDER - CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL Please fill in a form & return it to Murray or leave it in the office. To be on the roll, you will have to have been baptised & want to be a member of St Paul’s Church.

ASCENSION DAY 9th MAY This year we will try having a joint Ascension Day Service with our local Anglican Churches. It will be a Sung Eucharist at St James’ Church Norton beginning at 7.30 pm.  Toby Hole from St Chad’s will preach.

KNITTING WOOL REQUEST If anyone has spare balls of pure wool (not synthetics thanks) the W.I. would be most appreciative. It can be left in the Old Vestry for Sylvia to collect on Wednesday. The W.I. is supporting a project that Irene Seggar came up with, through her involvement with St Paul’s TLC. Amateur knitters are being asked to take up their needles to knit legwarmers for use in trampolining to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust’s funds. For more information visit www.supertramp.co.uk

UPPER HALL STORE Jacqui & John (B.) have begun the task of tidying the craft store and throwing away rubbish. Can all church members encourage everyone who uses the store to keep it tidy? Please see Jacqui if you can make use of paints, or fabric suitable for patchwork. Thank you

HILLSONG CONFERENCE is primarily a Church Leadership Conference intended to equip, encourage and empower church teams. This year it will be held at the O2 Arena in London in July. Last year 25 different denominations were represented with delegates from 739 churches across 61 nations. For more information, please call 07917 196595 or email hillsongconference@hillsong.co.uk

BOB HARTMAN You are warmly invited to an evening for children and families with Bob Hartman, author and much loved performance story teller for children, at Christ Church, Pitsmoor on Friday 7th June from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm. Please contact: jenny.lambourne@sheffiled.anglican.org for further details or phone 01709 309144

SAINSBURY’S VOUCHERS There’s a box at the back of church if you’d like to donate your vouchers to Active Kids again. In previous years the appeal has provided fantastic equipment for St Paul’s Beavers. Thankyou

SHEAF SINGERS CHRISTMAS CONCERT will be held on Sat 30th Nov at St Paul’s! Watch this space!

LINKING UP WITH THE CROSS SCYTHES  Recently, Murray had a meeting with the landlords and Richard Wilshaw, from Mount View, who shared in leading the carols evening with before Christmas. Tom, the landlord was still talking with amazement about how good the Carols Evening was, so the first thing was to book another one for Thurs 19th Dec at 7.30 pm. Please put that date in the diary!  We also talked about linking our sound system with theirs so that we can have the music all around the pub!
We also thought of having an event for children which will be a ‘Fancy Dress Nativity’ – we thought if children got dressed up, they could help us tell the Christmas story with a few carols to help us along.  We have pencilled that in for 3.30 pm on Mon 23rd Dec - let me know if that sounds a good time.

From Murray
At a recent PCC meeting we decided to switch from supporting Tearfund to supporting Christian Aid at our harvest services each year.

Though I have supported Tearfund for many years I have not been so impressed with the quality of the material in the last few years.  Last year I realised that I could not use the Tearfund material and so switched to Christian Aid and found that it was well presented and easy to use.

However, if you would like to continue supporting Tearfund Pam Yates operates a scheme to support Tearfund’s Children at Risk program.

They write: Traffickers lure thousands of children each year into existences of horrific abuse, coaxing them from their villages with empty promises of easy money and glamorous work in big cities.  Tearfund partner warns rural Cambodians of the dangers and rehabilitates those who make it home. But they need your support.

Please speak to Pam Y if you would like to join in helping these children through this program.
