CHRISTIAN AID WEEK 2-18 MAY
2013 ADVANCE NOTICE: Please keep this week free in your diaries! We
collected
£1355.60 last year from local house to house collections.
There will be fewer collectors this year but
we will have a Christian Aid ‘Quiz Aid’ on Tuesday 14th May 7.30 pm at
the Cross Scythes. Please think and pray about whether you can help.
Contact Helen Franklin on 2554441 if you’d like more information.
CHRISTIAN AID MAY DAY TREK: As
part of our church’s support for Christian Aid week, there is an opportunity to
participate in the Sheffield May Day Trek on Monday May 6th. This is a
sponsored walk with options to walk 5, 10 or 15 miles, starting at Bolsterstone
Village Hall. Please contact Peter Franklin for more details or if you are
interested in joining the trek. Transport to and from Bolsterstone can be
arranged if required.
CHURCH ELECTORAL
ROLL This year, we have to
completely redo our roll, so please fill in a form and return it to Murray or
leave it in the office. To be on the roll, you will have to have been baptised
and want to be a member of St Paul’s Church.
ASCENSION
DAY 9th MAY This year we will try having a joint Ascension Day
Service with our local Anglican Churches.
It will be a Sung Eucharist at St James’ Church Norton beginning at 7.30
pm.
KNITTING
WOOL REQUEST If anyone has spare
balls of pure wool (not synthetics thanks) the W.I. would be most appreciative.
It can be left in the Old Vestry for Sylvia to collect on Wednesday. The W.I. is
supporting a project that Irene Seggar came up with, through her involvement
with St Paul’s TLC. Amateur knitters are being asked to take up their needles
to knit legwarmers for use in trampolining to raise money for the Cystic
Fibrosis Trust’s funds. For more information visit www.supertramp.co.uk
HOME
SECURITY Siobhan, who is a PC
based at Woodseats Police Station, will give a talk and practical advice on
improving security in and around your home, at the next meeting of the W.I. on
Wednesday 1st May at 7.30 pm. Siobhan will be supported by our local
PCSO. The talk is open to church members and all our community groups so
please come! (If enough people are interested, the talk will be held in the
Nave.) The request for this information is in response to an increasing number
of burglaries in Norton Lees, so we hope you will find it helpful.
1st
WEDNESDAY GROUP meets on 1st
May to watch Part 4 of the DVD “Christianity in Roman Times.”
UPPER
HALL STORE Jacqui & John (B.)
have begun the task of tidying the craft store and throwing away rubbish. Can
all church members encourage everyone who uses it to keep it tidy? Please see
Jacqui if you can make use of paints or fabric suitable for patchwork. Thank
you
M.U. On 8th May the Mothers’ Union will be
having a talk about Rwanda. New members always welcome.
SAINSBURY’S
VOUCHERS There’s a box at the
back of church if you would like to donate to Active Kids 2013 again this year
please. In previous years the appeal has provided some fantastic equipment for
St Paul’s Beavers. More details to follow.
SHEAF SINGERS CHRISTMAS CONCERT will be held on Sat 30th Nov at St
Paul’s! Watch this space!
From Murray
Last week I had a good
meeting with the landlords of the Cross Scythes. We met with Richard Wilshaw the lay pastor of
Mount View who we shared the carols evening with before Christmas.
Tom, the landlord was
still talking with amazement about how good the carols evening was, so the
first thing we did was book another one for Thursday 19th December at 7.30 pm so please put that
date in the diary! We also talked about
linking our sound system with their’s so that we can have the music all around
the pub!
We also thought of
having an event for children which will be a ‘Fancy Dress Nativity’ – we thought
if children got dressed up they could help us
tell the Christmas story with a few carols to help us along. We have pencilled that in for 3.30 pm on
Monday 23rd December - let me know if that sounds a good time.
And finally we got round to the Christian Aid Quiz. Tom and Sophie were very happy to welcome us
on Tuesday 14th May from 7.30 pm. Richard thought it would be good
if we could bring fair-trade items as prizes.
