OLD VESTRY CARPET Does any
church member have a carpet shampooing machine that we could borrow for an hour
one Wednesday or Friday please? (Jane and Jo are happy to clean the Old Vestry
carpet during the school holidays whilst the Centre isn’t quite so busy.) Please see Murray, Ken or Cathy if you can
help. Thanks
CHANGES IN ZIMBABWE We currently support three organisations: Senior
Citizens Service (run by Dave) who provide a clinic for poor, retired, mainly
white Zimbabweans. Good Hope Orphan Care, supporting Aids orphans.
And finally Food for Homes Bulawayo, who provide food for people in care homes
who would find it hard otherwise to provide food for residents. The last of
these (Food for Homes) is closing down. This is for two reasons, first
there is now more food available for people to buy and second the organisers
have other commitments which they need to attend to.
I have talked
this over with Dave and with the support of the PCC have decided that we
continue to support the two projects Senior Citizens Service and Good Hope
Orphan Care with funds divided equally between them, rather than the three way
split at present.
THE MARY SUMNER DAY SERVICE will be held
at Doncaster Minster on Friday 9th August at 2pm.
MOTHERS’ UNION SUNDAY on Sunday
September 8th is a day of
prayer for the work of the Mothers’ Union. Please will you pray for our work
& ministry in our diocese and throughout the world.
GREETINGS CARDS There are new
cards for sale on the bookcase in the Meeting Place priced 50p, 75p or £1.00.
All money raised goes to the church Fabric Fund. (Card sales raise about £50.00
per year.) Please pay Jacqui or leave
money in the basket provided. Also on the bookshelf are some interesting & thought
provoking DVD’s. Please borrow, view,
then return for others to enjoy. Thank you
COMMUNITY NEWS
THIS WEEK! SHEAF CITIZENS ADVICE BUREAU has its AGM on Wed 17th July at 4.00 pm at St Mary’s
Community Centre, Bramall Lane. The meeting will be followed by a buffet and
the aim is to finish by 6.00pm. Please see the notice board at the bottom of
the stairs for more details.
NORTON LEES RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION - PUBLIC MEETING on Wednesday 7th August at 7.30 pm at the Bishops’ House.
This meeting will be an Extraordinary General Meeting to determine the future
of NoLRA. Whilst we have not had a public meeting for some time, we feel it is
important to keep the group together even when there are few important issues
to address. That way, when the estate does
face a problem, NoLRA is in a position to fight on the residents’ behalf. In
order to continue positively, NoLRA needs volunteer members. It doesn’t take
much effort, so please come and say hello at the meeting.
PEEKABOO Please get in touch with the new leaders if you
would like to help with toy washing & replacing batteries on 28th
August - telephone & email contact details in “What’s on.” As before, please see Liz Whitwam if you’d
like to join the Peekaboo refreshment makers list. Thanks

Sun 21st – CMA Rideout for Charity
From Murray
This week my friend Steve from Dubai called in! He is actually on holiday in England at the
moment and is visiting Universities with his youngest daughter, so they stayed
the night with us prior to an open day at Sheffield Uni. As ever it was good to see them and to hear
how they are getting on. He said he was
glad to be away from the heat – it is in the 30s every day over there at this
time of year and can even get up to 40o C! Christ Church Jebel Ali continues to thrive
and he is planning to run an Alpha course in the Autumn (a well know
introduction to the Christian faith a bit like my own Questions! Questions!)
