DATE FOR YOUR DIARIES: PRAYER DAY 2013
On Saturday 14th
September from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm,
St Paul’s will
be holding a Prayer Day “Meeting God in
the Natural World” at Longshaw Moorland Discovery Centre (which is close to
Fox House on the A6187 Hathersage to Owler Bar Road, or can be found on your
Sat Nav at S11 7TZ)
The cost is
£5.00 each, (as long as 18 people attend the day). This includes drinks, but
not lunch or car parking. The day will include time for silent prayer and will
end with a simple Communion Service.
Because there is only one room, we are very sorry, but it will not be
possible to provide separate activities for children.
If you think
you might be interested, please complete a form and give it to Murray before
Sunday 11th August. Thank you
OLD VESTRY CARPET Does any
church member have a carpet shampooing machine that we could borrow for an hour
one Wednesday or Friday please? (Jane and Jo are happy to clean the Old Vestry
carpet during the school holidays whilst the Centre isn’t quite so busy.) Please see Murray, Ken or Cathy if you can
help. Thanks
MOTHERS’ UNION
M.U. WAVE OF PRAYER Our prayer slot will be on Saturday 3rd August from 1.30 pm to 2.00 pm,
when Jacqui hopes to greet you, if you’d like to come to pray quietly in church.
THE MARY SUMNER DAY SERVICE will be held
at Doncaster Minster on Friday 9th August at 2pm.
MOTHERS’ UNION SUNDAY on 8th
September is a day of prayer for the work of the Mothers’ Union. Please pray
for our work & ministry in our diocese & throughout the world.
DIARIES AND CALENDARS FOR 2014 Please
order your diary/calendar for next year from Jacqui as soon as possible.
‘FAMILIES FIRST’ - REMINDER Payment for
your magazine subscription is now due. Please pay Jacqui this week.
GREETINGS CARDS There are new
cards for sale on the bookcase in the Meeting Place priced 50p, 75p or £1.00.
All money raised goes to the church Fabric Fund. (Card sales raise about £50.00
per year.) Please pay Jacqui or leave
money in the basket provided. Also on the bookshelf are some interesting & thought
provoking DVD’s. Please borrow, view,
then return for others to enjoy. Thank you
COMMUNITY NEWS
PEEKABOO Please get in touch with the new leaders if you
would like to help with toy washing & replacing batteries on 28th
August - telephone & email contact details in “What’s on.” As before, please see Liz Whitwam if you’d
like to join the Peekaboo refreshment makers list. Thanks
NORTON LEES RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION - PUBLIC MEETING on Wednesday 7th August at 7.30 pm at the Bishops’ House.
This meeting will be an Extraordinary General Meeting to determine the future
of NoLRA. Whilst we have not had a public meeting for some time, we feel it is
important to keep the group together even when there are few important issues
to address. That way, when the estate does
face a problem, NoLRA is in a position to fight on the residents’ behalf. In
order to continue positively, NoLRA needs volunteer members. It doesn’t take
much effort, so please come and say hello at the meeting.
“SUNNY DAYS” AT ST PAUL’S Home Start has been
experiencing some funding problems and sadly have to lose one of their support
workers. The group will continue here as long as they are able, and the sessions
run by two of the co-ordinators, Joanne Glenn or Sarah McLean. Our thanks to Julie who has done a great job
working with families to establish Sunny Days at St Pau’s, and wishing her all
the very best for the future.
Mike’s Ministry:
Sun 21st – CMA Rideout for Charity
Tues 23rd – Derbyshire Lane Group – “How to turn a bible
reading into a sermon”
Thurs 25th – Away day at Golcar with Murray & Barbara
Sun 28th – St Paul’s 10.00 am H.C.
From Murray
Someone has asked about the next Questions! Questions! series. I would like to lead one after this year’s Back
to Church Sunday service which is on the 29th September at 10 am. The idea is that we invite our friends and
relatives to this special service, and if they like what they experience they
might like to go on to attend QQ.
My preference would be to run the autumn QQ series on Wednesday
evenings, but I could run them on Thursday evenings if people wanted. So if you would like to be part of an autumn
QQ please let me know.
Unfortunately I am not free each Wednesday or Thursday in that time,
so on either night the series would have to run into December to include the full
eight weeks.
