From Murray
What a wonderful weekend! As I
write I am remembering last year’s Christmas Tree Festival and all the people
it drew to St Paul’s. Connecting the
festival with our church anniversary, this year, is a great addition and I am
so pleased that we have Bishop Steven coming to St Paul’s to mark the occasion.
As early as 1873 the process of creating the Parish of Norton Lees out
of the huge ancient Parish of Norton was begun. By May the next year an Order in Council formally
created the new parish. St Paul’s was built
and finally consecrated by the Bishop of Lichfield (the Diocese it was then in)
on 23rd November 1877.
So much has changed in 136 years!
In the early 1930’s the roof had to be replaced when the side aisles
were created. In the 1960’s the first pipe
organ was replaced with the huge instrument which stood at the back of church
until our reordering eight years ago. St
Paul’s is a dynamic place which has changed and evolved to meet the new
challenges we are presented with. As we
celebrate 136 years let’s look forward to all the things God has for us in the
future.
