Why no Churches Together ‘Pentecost Praise’?
For many years
we have been meeting together for worship a few times a year with our friends
from Mount View Methodist Church, The Church of the Nazarene, Heeley Parish
Church and Meersbrook Park United Reformed Church in our local Churches
Together group. Sadly over the last few
years the attendance has been dropping and you might like to think when you
last went to a Churches Together service which was not at St Pauls’! Over the years we have tried a number of
ventures together like the ‘Whit Sings’ in Meersbrook Park a few years ago.
I am sure that
we are at our best when we do something together. Worshipping together and even sharing
Communion together are things we have done a number of times, and now are not
new anymore. The significant thing we
are doing together is supporting The Gleadless Valley and Heeley Foodbank.
At a recent
Churches Together Ministers Meeting a brave and I believe right decision was
made to stop our shared services for the time being and to focus on our support
for Foodbank. So we will continue to
meet together as ministers, but we will not worship together so much for the
time being.
If you have any reactions of comments please pass
them on to me (Murray) or to Mike.
WEAR RED FOR PENTECOST! Our 10.00 am
service today is Pentecost Family Worship.
We will focus on the gifts God gives to us and how we can use them for
his glory. Murray would also like you to
wear red to celebrate the gift of God’s Holy Spirit. Depending on the weather we may finish the
service with a fire outside with a few songs and prayers, and if we do go out
we will also have another Pentecost church photo as we did last year.
QUIZAID
AT THE CROSS SCYTHES raised £84.70 for Christian Aid.
1st WEDNESDAY The group
will be watching a DVD at their June meeting, entitled “Christians in Pompeii”
and will be having a meal out in July. Please see Jacqui for details.
BOB HARTMAN You are warmly invited to
an evening for children and families with Bob Hartman, author and much loved
performance story teller for children, at Christ Church, Pitsmoor on Friday 7th
June from 6.30 pm - 8.00 pm. Contact: jenny.lambourne@sheffield.anglican.org
for further details or phone 01709 309144
SAINSBURY’S VOUCHERS There’s a box
at the back of church if you’d like to donate your Sainsbury’s Active Kids
Vouchers again this year. In previous years, the appeal has provided fantastic
equipment for St Paul’s Beavers. Thank you everyone who’s donated already.
FLOWER ARRANGING DEMONSTRATION To raise some
much needed funds for church flowers, Liz Edwards has kindly offered to do a
demonstration of flower arranging for us. Liz is thinking of a Monday evening
event. Could people please let Deidre know if this is a good time? Thanks
HEELEY
HISTORY WORKSHOP Anyone interested in the area and its
people is very welcome to come to our informal weekly meetings on Monday
afternoons (except Bank Holidays) between 2.00-4.00 pm at the Community Rooms
at the Heeley Green Centre on the corner of Gleadless Rd & Fitzroy Rd. Join
us on Monday 20th May at 2.00 pm to celebrate our project “Social Life in
Heeley and Thereabouts.” We will show you our film and launch our new leaflet
about social life.
ST LUKE’S Please see the poster at the foot of the stairs
from St Luke’s Sheffield Hospice. They would like to recruit more volunteers to
help raise much needed funds. Each year, St Luke’s provides specialist care
entirely free of charge to around 1,500 local adults with a wide variety of
incurable illnesses. Their aim is to improve the quality of life at a time when
life is especially precious. Thank you
RATTLE & ROLL – Musical fun
classes for children 0-4 years. Anne Connolly is now back at work following the
safe arrival of her new baby daughter, Minnie. Please tell your family and friends about
these sessions which are fun, energetic and full of music and dance. (The
children especially like the bubble and parachute sessions.)
You’ll find
Anne in the OV at 11.00 am on Tuesdays during term time. New members very welcome - leaflets in church.
M.U. IN JUNE The topic on Wednesday 12th June will be The Emmaus Society.
THE BISHOP’S GARDEN PARTY will be held
on Sunday 16th June at Bishopscroft from 2-5.00 pm.
Mike’s Ministry:
Sun 19th – Pentecost - 8.00 am H.C. & Beauchief Abbey
Mon 20th – Charnock Hall Infant & Charnock Hall Junior
Tues 21st – St Paul’s 10.00 am H.C. & Wooldale Junior
Prayer Focus:
We continue to pray for all have been bereaved , are ill and those who
care for them
From Murray
Remember that now we don’t have a time in the year when we give to
Tearfund, you can still do so by joining the scheme which Pam Yates looks
after.
Thank you to everyone who has helped to raise money for Christian Aid
this week. I found the videos we saw at
10 am last Sunday really inspiring – we can do something significant for people
through Christian Aid!
From Margaret
It was a joy to worship
at Holmwood today with the residents. Konrad made the afternoon so special with
his love and care for the sick and elderly. Murray led the short Service which
included many hymns enjoyed by all. If all the Care Homes had a 'Konrad' they
would be much happier places. We all received a friendly welcome. After visiting
many Homes for the elderly Holmwood would come at the top of the list.
