OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD SHOEBOXES Here’s a reminder to start looking round for the things to put in. This year the organisers have suggested that because the Olympics are going to be in the UK next year, we might like to do Sports themed boxes.

Make your shoebox sports-themed
There are several ways you can give your shoebox an Olympic twist this year…
GIFTS: Along with gifts you would usually send, you might want to include a tennis ball, skipping rope, baseball hat, small football, inflatable beach ball, stop watch, sweat bands, toy medals or some other sports-related gift that would bring a smile to a child!
BOX: You could even decorate your shoebox with Olympic stickers, drawings or try and get hold of special Olympics wrapping paper (if indeed such a thing exists!)
MESSAGE: You might want to add a message to your child, stating that the shoebox has come from the home of the next Olympics and that you hope they enjoy the sports items you’ve included in your box for them to play with.  If people want to go online, the address is www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk/

REMINDER!! CHURCH GARDEN Many thanks to John Brown who has put in an enormous amount of work to tidy the grounds. Please take a look at John’s plan (in church) to help us maintain the garden and do sign up to give your support if you have an hour free each month. Many of the plots are small and you would only need to come and weed occasionally. (The grass will continue to be cut by Robert.) For more info. see John or Ken.

NEXT TALBOT SCHOOL SERVICES are at 2 pm on Sundays 9th Oct & 4th Dec. If anyone would like to help with refreshments at either service, please see Jacqui.

REMINDER - ECCLESALL DEANERY EVENING “Growing the Body of Christ” The Diocesan Strategy for Growth on Wed 23rd Nov 7.30 pm at All Saints, Ecclesall.

HARVEST MESSY CHURCH at St Paul’s (for families) will be on Sat 15th Oct. We need small conkers, acorns and beech nut shells etc. for the well-dressing we’ll be making, if members would like to collect some please. MESSY CHURCH GATHERING & RESOURCE DAY: 0n Sat 8th Oct from 9:30am to 1pm at St John’s, Park, Bernard Street for those who want to find out more about Messy Church. Please contact Pete or Ann to book a place and remember to bring a craft idea to share.

SHEFFIELD- ARGENTINA DIOCESAN LINK The Diocese of Sheffield has had a link with Argentina for nearly 20 years. Please see the letter and poster in MP which encourages people to get in touch with The Link, particularly anyone who speaks Spanish, or has links with South America.

VACUUM CLEANERS We have two spare Dyson cleaners that need attention. Does anyone have the skills to repair them? If so, please see Ken, Cathy or John H. (We would like to keep the best one for use by groups doing crafts in The Old Vestry.)

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY This year’s Church Buffet will be held on Friday 18th November.

GARDENING EQUIPMENT FOR SCHOOLS Does anyone have children who are collecting Morrison’s Vouchers for their school or nursery? (5th Sept – 30th Oct) If so, there are some vouchers on the bookcase.

NOTICES, LINK ETC. The office would be pleased to know your views or receive emails regarding the amount of paper we hand out on Sundays. It would be good to reduce the number of sheets we give out, but we want to continue the things you’re most interested in, so please let us know your preferences. Thank you.

From Murray’s Diary
Autumn is upon us and it is not long now until our Harvest Festival Family Worship on Sunday 16th October.  As before we will be hearing about the work of Tearfund and supporting the work of Roundabout who provide shelter, support and life skills for homeless young people in Sheffield.  Please bring non perishable food which can be given to young people to make their own meals.  Tinned food seems to be a special favourite!
