CHRISTMAS SERVICES  Please take leaflets for your family, friends & neighbours – there are plenty on the MP table.

THANKSGIVING BOXES for weekly donations are now available for collection from the back of church. Please see Peter (Franklin) if you would like to know more.

MESSY CHURCH   Thank you to everyone who helped with preparations, and on the day, of our Advent Messy Church.  Making Christingles worked well at Messy Church, I know some people could not make it – there were some spare oranges so you could have made your own on the Sunday!

OFFICE CLOSURE FOR CHRISTMAS Normal service will be resumed on Wednesday 2nd January. If there’s anything you require, please leave a note and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. May I also take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful volunteers for their valuable help again this year, and  wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a great 2013. Cathy

NEW YOGA GROUP we have a new group “Gentle Yoga & Relaxation” with Ruth Robson starting on Friday 11th January from 2 - 3.00 pm in the Old Vestry. For now, Ruth aims to keep the group small .  Please note: The class will be held in the UH on Fri 25th Jan & Fri 1st Feb only, owing to prior bookings from NTP Driver Training and Best Price Jewellery and Antiques Valuations.

M.U. Liz Warren will speak about ‘Parish Work’ at the next meeting of the Mothers’ Union on 9th January.

FOOD BANK We are still collecting food donations for the Food Bank based at Gleadless. There’s a box at the back of church for food and thanks to all who’ve given.

GROUPS MEETING AT ST PAUL’S It’s helpful if you’re involved with any groups that meet here, if you haven’t already done so, if you can give Joan a list of next year’s meeting dates in writing – a note or email is fine please, to save her having to count them all out for the new diary, and Cathy can make sure the room is heated for you. Thank you.

JANUARY CHURCH ROTA is now ready for collection from the back of church. Feb – Apr to follow shortly. Please check your emails if you’ve requested an electronic copy, or see Ann for inclusion on the email list for next time.

NEWS OF OUR COMMUNITY
CRIME PREVENTION There is a copy of Crime Prevention Initiative Magazine with safety tips, smart phone security, information on how to protect your home etc. on the Meeting Place coffee table.

ZEST Please see the poster at the foot of the stairs for “Zest” an NHS service for overweight children in Sheffield, providing support, guidance and advice to families with children aged 7-15 years who are above a healthy weight or phone 270 2040 to find out more.

Prayer Focus:
We continue to pray for all who are bereaved or ill and those who care for them

Your prayers are also asked for people in need throughout the year, as well as at Christmas time. Robert would like us to pray for the fledgling Heeley Foodbank that he intends helping out at, which was inspired by the Gleadless one we’ve been supporting. Murray heard something on the radio about the amazing job they are doing in Rotherham - we need to support them all we can.

From Murray
I have been having great fun this week helping to prepare for Meersbrook Bank Christingle Service.  I was invited to school on Monday morning for their dress rehearsal assembly.  I could see the hard work they were putting into everything and catch some of the talent and enthusiasm of the children. I had a great welcome from the children as I know many of them through being a Cub Scout leader – though they seemed much more excited to see me at school than they do at Cubs!

Then this morning (Tuesday) I helped a few staff members think through the practicalities of the how the service would work in church – sorting out how to use microphones and how to play backing music (they had it all worked out and then the school laptop would not start!)  Anyway we got there in the end.

David will be racing home from work to play the organ for us and a number of children will be playing other instruments in the service.  One little lad (who goes with his parents to St Mary’s Bramall Lane) will be playing the clarinet.  It comes right down to his ankles – and he plays it really well!  I am sure it going to be a great service – a bit different from how we did it in the past, but with more opportunities for the children to take part – which I am sure is a good thing!
