A WARM WELCOME to the families and friends of Amelia and Jacob who are being baptised at St Paul’s today.

From Murray
We had a really positive PCC meeting last night – thank you for praying for us!  We’d been working on a questionnaire before the meeting, so that was a good start.  Karen Cribb who came to listen and report back to the Deanery Mission and Pastoral Committee on us, is a self-supporting Priest who works at St Mary’s Bramall Lane.  She is great value and was very thoughtful and encouraging as she drew out more answers from us and clarified some of the things we had written about.  It was a very encouraging time when we were able to see the breadth of all that God has lead us into as a church, the way we take opportunities to share God’s love with those around us in word and deed and the way God has been leading us over so many years.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARIES: PRAYER DAY 2013 On Saturday 14th September from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, St Paul’s will be holding a Prayer Day “Meeting God in the Natural World” at Longshaw Moorland Discovery Centre (which is close to Fox House on the A6187 Hathersage to Owler Bar Road, or can be found on your Sat Nav at S11 7TZ).

The cost is £5.00 each, (as long as 18 people attend the day). This includes drinks, but not lunch or car parking. The day will include time for silent prayer and will end with a simple Communion Service.  Because there is only one room, we are very sorry, but it will not be possible to provide separate activities for children. If you think you might be interested, please complete a form and give it to Murray before Sunday 11th August.  Thank you.

MESSY CHURCH The next one is on Saturday 17th August 2 -4pm MessyChurch@GravesPark.  Meet by the playground, bring picnic snacks, drinks and outdoor games if you have them.  We'll bring squash and cakes.

MessyChurch@St Paul's - Autumn dates – 7th September, 19th October, 14th December (- all Saturdays) from 10am - 12.30pm including lunch. Do invite children and parents & carers and if you can help let Sarah, Pete or Ann know.

NORTON LEES HALL Murray will be leading a service there on Tuesday 13th August at 2.00 pm – singers welcome!

“MIDSUMMER MAGIC” FLORAL DEMONSTRATION Many thanks to Liz Edwards for a lovely evening and to Jean, Deidre and her daughter Helen, for doing the refreshments (not forgetting Jacqui for washing all those strawberries!) The event raised a brilliant £136.70 towards St Paul’s Flower Fund. Liz has asked for her thanks to be passed on to everyone for coming to give their support.
Please see the leaflets in the Meeting Place for “Derbyshire Delights” at St Peter’s Church, Edensor, from Saturday  10th to Sunday 18th August from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm. Cost £4.00

THE NAVE WINDOWS   Murray heard from the Church Burgesses last weekend. They have agreed to meet us half way with the amount that we requested in our first bid for a grant, and suggested we approach the Diocese for matched funding (a further £2,500.) It’s looking as if we will be able to get the worst affected window repaired before winter comes, but we will still need to forge ahead with applications for funding for the remaining windows.

MOTHERS’ UNION SUNDAY on 8th September is a day of prayer for the work of the Mothers’ Union. Please pray for our work & ministry in our diocese & throughout the world.
DIARIES & CALENDARS FOR 2014 Please order your diary or calendar for next year from Jacqui as soon as possible.

FOODBANK  Could you check that all food is in date – probably not a problem from here but from other sources!
PEEKABOO HELPERS Thank you to all who have done such a great job helping with refreshments throughout the school year.  Thanks also to church members who have given their time to welcome & talk to all the parents, carers and children. Peekaboo is back at St Paul’s on Wednesday 4th September; there’s a copy of the new refreshments rota inside the tall cupboard in the main kitchen. As before, please contact Liz Whitwam if you’d like to join the Peekaboo refreshment makers list.

CHRISTMAS! If you are interested in joining a bell ringing team to perform at the Christmas Tree Festival on Saturday 23rd November, please contact Jacqui and be prepared for at least 8 practices. Date for your diary:  there will be another planning meeting for the Christmas Tree Festival on Mon 9th Sept in the Old Vestry at 2.30 pm. Come and help to make it a really special weekend. We’re hoping for an even better turnout than last year from all the groups who meet at St Pauls, and everyone from our local and neighbouring communities.  Bishop Steven will be joining us at our 10 o’clock service on Sunday 24th November, so please remember to put the above dates in your diaries!

FROM GAIL If anyone can come to support Gail's when she is authorised as a parish evangelist at Doncaster Minster on Saturday 21st September at 11.00 am. Please let her know as she is thinking about getting a coach and sharing with St Chad's, depending on numbers. Gail would also like to thank everyone for their help, support, encouragement and prayers as she has been training. If anyone wants to know about her training, Gail will be very happy to share more. We all have different gifts and we can use them to help and encourage each other. One important thing Gail has learned is about working together and helping and supporting each other.

CHURCH BBQ – date for your diary. This year’s Summer BBQ is on Friday 30th August.  More details shortly.

Mike’s Ministry:
Sun 4th – St Paul’s Baptism Service
Sun 11th  – Tapton Hill Congregational
