TEN DAYS OF PRAYER
Bishop
Steven’s Ten Days of Prayer begin at the end of this month on Ascension Day
which is Thursday 29th May.
The PCC suggest that this year church groups take the initiative in
prayer. So, any group meeting during the 10 days, either in church or at home,
should take time to join in the prayers in some way. Murray will put a signup sheet at the back of
church for groups to indicate that they are taking part. All you need do is say that you will take a
bit of time to join in the prayer as part of your meeting, say where you will
be meeting and if your meeting will be open to others to join you or not (that
is very much up to you – you know the nature of your group!). We have plenty of 10 Days of Prayer leaflets
which have suggested bible readings and prayer topics for each day. Let’s see a diversity of ways of praying at
St Paul’s and around the parish!
notices
THANK YOU to everyone
who grew plants and supplied cakes for last Saturday’s event and all those
people who came to support us. We raised
£335 on the day towards our window repairs and there are still lots more tomato
and chilli plants left in church if you missed the sale!
ANNIVERSARY INVITATION The Dean and Chapter invite you to a Eucharist to mark the 20th
Anniversary of the Ordination of Women on Sat 14th June 2014 at
11.00 am at Sheffield Cathedral. The president will be the Dean of Women’s
Ministry and the preacher will be the Venerable Jane Sinclair. Please RSVP by 6th
to Mrs J Watson, Sheffield Cathedral, Church St, Sheffiled S1 1HA or info@sheffield-cathedral.org.uk
June (no tickets will be issued.)
JOHN THOMSON’S CONSECRATION Her Majesty
the Queen has appointed the Revd Canon Dr John Thomson as the Suffragan Bishop
of Selby. John will be consecrated on Thursday 3 July 2014 at 11.00 am in
York Minster. Please see Murray if you
would like to attend the service by 25th May – it will be well worth
it if you wanted to go!
THANKSGIVING Following Peter’s report on Church finances at our AGM, if anyone
would like to join our Thanksgiving Scheme please speak to Peter for envelopes
or a form for a standing order.
‘MUM’S THE WORD’ - UK tour 2014 on 4th June at the Sheffield Double Tree Hilton. Encouragement, insight and inspiration for
every Mum! Speakers Diane Louise Jordan and Cathy Madavan – tickets £6 each

DIOCESAN CENTENARY Please see Murray if you can help at our local event on Sunday 22nd
June from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at Beauchief Abbey. We had the first evening of stewards training
which was very well received, and very interesting. But we are still in
need of stewards for our events at Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield We are holding a
second training evening on 28 May at Church House, Rotherham 7 pm.
The role of the stewards will be very important at the events. They will
be welcoming people, manning stalls, answering enquiries etc – they will be the
people who are meeting and greeting everyone.
Unfortunately only people who have attended the training will be able to
act as stewards at the events.
W.I. OUTING On
Wednesday 6th August, Norton Lees (St Paul’s) Women’s Institute is
planning a trip which includes a two hour cruise on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal
with lunch served on the boat. There will also be a stop on the way home for
afternoon tea. There are still a few spaces left so why not come with a friend
for a lovely day out? The price is £27.00 and includes coach fare, the canal
trip and lunch but not afternoon tea –
telephone Sylvia Sanderson on 0114 2582194 if you’d like to know more or to
book a place. The coach will be leaving St Paul’s at 9.30 am and will arrive
back in Sheffield about 6.00 pm.

FOODBANK UPDATE
Last week they
gave out 276kg of food and received 332kg, 20kg from St Paul’s. A steady day, not as busy as some weeks. A client came to them from a Police Station
having been beaten up and robbed the night before and then was in hospital for
7 hours. Another was a former plasterer
who can no longer work because of a back injury and is now on a lot of
medication.

From Murray
Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern and being praying for me
after my ME relapse last week. I am
pleased to say that I am doing a bit better each day and feeling more like
myself again. It was a nasty shock and a
warning not to keep on over
