TEN DAYS OF PRAYER

Bishop Steven’s Ten Days of Prayer begin at the end of this month on Ascension Day which is Thursday 29th May.  The PCC suggest that this year church groups take the initiative in prayer. So, any group meeting during the 10 days, either in church or at home, should take time to join in the prayers in some way.  Murray will put a signup sheet at the back of church for groups to indicate that they are taking part.  All you need do is say that you will take a bit of time to join in the prayer as part of your meeting, say where you will be meeting and if your meeting will be open to others to join you or not (that is very much up to you – you know the nature of your group!).  We have plenty of 10 Days of Prayer leaflets which have suggested bible readings and prayer topics for each day.  Let’s see a diversity of ways of praying at St Paul’s and around the parish!

From Murray

Thanks to those who supported our Scout Group Centenary weekend.  The weather was glorious and we had lots of old members come to the Scout Hall on Saturday and I need not have worried that there would not be enough at the service on Sunday!  We had a great crowd and the service was much appreciated.  The weekend went extremely well and it was great to be able to show off out wonderful church building to Bishop Peter and his wife and to visiting Scouting people who had not seen it before.

CHRISTIAN AID  Many thanks to all those who helped in any way during Christian Aid Week, the total so far for the street collection is £890.39, Quiz Aid £61.50, Seekers cake bake £24.31. Helen and Peter

NORTON LEES LANE RESURFACING UPDATE  It looks like the road may be closed during the evenings (7 am to 7 pm) during the weeks of 2nd and 9th June, though the schedule may slip so any time in June could be tricky for evening meetings!

THANK YOU to everyone who grew plants and supplied cakes for our Plant sale/Coffee morning  and all those people who came to support us.  We raised £335 on the day towards our window repairs and there are still lots more tomato plants left in church if you missed the sale!

DIOCESAN CENTENARY Please see Murray if you can help at our local event on Sunday 22nd June from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm at Beauchief Abbey.  We had the first evening of stewards training which was very well received, and very interesting.  But we are still in need of stewards for our events at Beauchief Abbey, Sheffield We are holding a second training evening on 28 May at Church House, Rotherham  7 pm.  The role of the stewards will be very important at the events.  They will be welcoming people, manning stalls, answering enquiries etc – they will be the people who are meeting and greeting everyone.  Unfortunately only people who have attended the training will be able to act as stewards at the events.

W.I. OUTING On Wednesday 6th August, Norton Lees (St Paul’s) Women’s Institute is planning a trip which includes a two hour cruise on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal with lunch served on the boat.
