From Murray  This year we are focussing on the Centenary of the beginning of the First World War.  One of the tragedies I had not appreciated was that it was so unexpected and that 100 years ago people were still happily learning German and feeling no animosity towards the nation against whom we were about to fight such a terrible war.

Another anniversary this year is 70 years since D Day, a pivotal and costly day in the Second World War.  Ann and I were musing that there had been an anniversary of D Day when we holidayed in France one year staying a few days in Normandy and visiting Pegasus Bridge where a father of a friend landed in a glider soon after D Day.  The shock came when we realised that the holiday was 30 years ago, when we were first married – we did look a bit different in the holiday pictures we unearthed!  Happy days!  At the time we lived in Portsmouth so driving to the ferry only took us about 15 minutes and we sailed out past Navy ships in the dockyard as well as the Royal Yacht Britannia.

CHRISTIAN AID  Many thanks to all those who helped in any way during Christian Aid Week, the total so far for the street collection is £944.05,May Day Trek £716.  Quiz Aid £61.50, Seekers cake bake £24.31. Helen and Peter

From Murray  How are you needing the power of God’s Holy Spirit in your life - as we come to celebrate the Day of Pentecost this year?  Take time to formulate your thoughts and turn the thoughts into a prayer!  Remember that Jesus said “ask and you will receive, search and you will find, knock and the door will be opened for you” (Luke 11.9)
