FROM MURRAY
Well I managed one day on retreat!  I had a glorious day calling at Mount Grace Priory to see a reconstructed Carthusian hermitage – the monks spent most of their time alone and in silence but they had a little house to live in where they could work pray and tend their gardens.  My retreats do not include gardening but I liked the idea of the balance in life – if only I could achieve it!  With a bit more time to kill before I could arrive I visited Saltburn and Staithes just to look at the sea.  I was made very welcome when I arrived at St Oswald’s Pastoral Centre.  I learned that it can accommodate up to about a dozen people who are always welcome to join the four nuns in their worship four times a day.  When we go in October we will have the run of the house.  There will be enough space for us to meet together in the main lounge but there are some smaller sitting rooms we could also use as well as a few summer houses!  I made for a summer house with a sunny view over the valley and managed to find a bit of stillness at the end of the day.

But by then it was clear that my Aunt was not at all well.  So I arranged with the nuns to pack up and drive back to Sheffield the next day.  Ann then drove me down to Sevenoaks where we found my Aunt failing fast.  It was hard to believe as she had been so well when we last saw her in April.  We were able to discuss her condition with the care home staff who promptly arranged end of life care for Molly.  She was less aware of us by the time we left on Saturday and she died on Monday.

FOODBANK UPDATE
They processed 12 vouchers and 184 kg.  120kg came in 18kg from St Paul’s.  It was a steady session with lack of buses because of road works accounting for some not being able to make it.  Robert heard some encouraging stories which cheered him up from people coping with mental health and alcohol issues.  God is good!
