From Murray
Last week was a busy one for me but I want to tell you about two particular experiences.  First was the leaver’s service for Mundella School year 6.  We had 41 children come to St Paul’s and they had all been working on their ‘feet’.  They each had three foot shapes on different coloured papers and they had written some things that they were frightened about when they go to their new school, some things they would be sad to leave behind and some things they were excited about.  Again it was such a privilege to draw out from the children some of the things they had written about – I should think each child shared something from at least one of their ‘feet’.  We put the frightening and the sad feet on the communion table and the excited feet made footsteps down the aisle because they were taking us to new places!  We then gave out a copy of the Scripture Union book ‘It’s your move’ to each child personally (on your behalf) and I prayed for them all.  Thank you very much to Liz who did all the organising and worked hard with refreshments after the service.

Then on Sunday afternoon we had a great time at Beauchief Abbey.  Bishop Steven spoke very powerfully about ‘Jesus the door’ and there were stalls and activities for children.  Of course the lovely weather was a great help but it was a lovely event.

A MESSAGE OF THANKS FROM DAVID:   Jill and I would like to thank everyone at church for the cards, love and support we've received from many friends at St Paul's after the death of my Mum.

M.U.  Joan Ridgeway will speak at the M.U. meeting on Wed 9th July when it’s hoped we will be able to present a cheque to AFIA - “Away From It All” - holidays for families in need. Please help us to raise as much as we can from the cake sale next week!

SUE’S BIRTHDAY Sue and Andy would like to invite our church family to celebrate Sue’s 60th Birthday on Friday August 1st from 7.00 to 11.00 pm. Please see the notice in church and let us know if you can come!

AUG – OCT CHURCH DUTY ROTA is now being prepared. After this week, please arrange your own swaps if you are not at the moment able to verify dates when you will be unavailable for the next quarter’s rota. Thanks

ST PAUL’S RETREAT 6th to 8th OCTOBER  A few people have said they would like to go, so Murray will meet with anyone interested in coming on the retreat, on Monday evening 28th July at 7.30 pm in the Meeting Place.

PREACHING TRAINING MORNING  On Saturday 19th July from 10am and 12pm Toby will be leading a preaching workshop for people at his church and is welcoming others within the Deanery.  Let Murray know if you are interested.

RIDE AND STRIDE 13th SEPTEMBER  This is a sponsored event for Yorkshire Historic Churches.  We have been asked to have the church open for people to visit that day and provide refreshments.  It requires  a team of people to cover the day. It is the same day as the next Prayer Day at Longshaw.  Please see Murray if you can help.

REMINDER May we take this opportunity to remind you to ensure that all food left at church is wrapped (preferably stored in boxes with lids please.) Open packets of biscuits have been left on counter tops recently. Thank you

SAINSBURY’S ACTIVE KIDS VOUCHERS  We’d like to encourage people to bring in any vouchers as soon as possible please. In previous years we have had some wonderful equipment for Beavers & Cubs!

Please phone Sara McClean at Sheffield Home Start on 2788377

LOCAL HISTORY GROUP next meets on Tues 8th July for a “Local History Share.”  Come along and share your local history news & knowledge or just come along and enjoy the discussion! (No meeting on 12th August. History Group then resumes on Tuesday 9th September with “Justice of the Peace: 653 Years & Counting” with Stephen Hall and Ron Cooke.)

FOODBANK UPDATE  This week they processed 17 vouchers and gave out 300kg of food  but they only got in 195kg, (23kg from St Paul’s.)  They had workers from organisations  who collect food for their clients – one of whom had just been housed after living on the streets and had nothing.  The workers were complimentary about Foodbank, polite and friendly.
