From Murray   I had a good trip down south last week.  I went by train to St Pancras where I changed to a Sevenoaks train on the Thameslink line.  The line runs under part of the City of London and through to the splendid new Blackfriars station which is now on the bridge over the Thames with great views of the Shard.  After dealing with my business in Sevenoaks I caught a train to Bexleyheath (via Lewisham) where I was met by Trevor.  The next day I joined Trevor for Morning Prayer in church which was followed by coffee in the café across the high street (which he uses as a place to meet people) and back again for midweek Communion at which I preached.  It was very encouraging to see how well Trevor has settled in and coped with the change from BT to parish ministry.  We chatted over progress with the church mission statement and plans for reordering their building.  I have to say that I was rather gratified to hear that Trevor is not finding parish ministry that easy even after the pressures of being a high ranking manager within BT!

FROM DOROTHY  I would like to say to my church family and friends ‘Thank you all for the lovely cards and good wishes, and for making my birthday so very special.’  Dorothy was delighted to receive over 50 cards and was very moved by the warmth and love expressed.

FOODBANK UPDATE
Robert had a busier session last week processing 17 vouchers and delivering St Paul’s share of 29 kg.  He had a very encouraging conversation with a young man who had been in prison but has now managed to get a house, stop drinking and smoking and look after his ten year old son three days a week.  Robert was impressed with his positive attitude and determination to set a good example for his son.  Robert was also delighted that work started on Gleadless Valley Methodist Church community garden, Heeley City Farm are providing some voluntary labour and are going a really good job.

From Murray
What are you going to do (or not do) for Lent this year?  Some people like to give something up, others to take on a challenge.  I very much hope you will be coming to our Faith to Share Lent Series.  I will speak on the first two weeks then an old friend called John Hibberd will speak at the next two.  John has a lot of experience helping people to share their faith, something Jesus really wants us to be doing.

This Sunday I will be speaking about rooting our lives in the Lord’s Prayer.  Please take a bookmark and use the prayer each day through Lent and see
