From Murray The weather clearly forgot that it was Bank Holiday on Monday!  What a fantastic English summers day with clear blue sky, puffy white clouds and a gentle breeze so that you did not overheat! – it made you feel great to be alive.  I was down in Kent overnight helping my Aunt setting into the newly built care home and it was good to see so many people enjoying the glorious weather!

THOSE WHO ARE TO BE CONFIRMED ON MONDAY EVENING 23RD SEPTEMBER There will be three people from St Paul’s who will be Confirmed this year.  Please pray for Jon, Glynis and Russell and be there to support them at St James’ Church that evening.  In preparation for this Russell is going to be Baptised in our 10 am Communion service today, Sunday 8th September.  I gave him the choice of being Baptised by Bishop Peter Burrows  at his Confirmation but he chose St Paul’s so that he could be amongst his Christian family, and who was I to stand in his way!

BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY – 29TH SEPTEMBER AT 10.00 AM The invitation cards are now out for this important service when we are encouraged to invite people to join us for worship.  It will be a Morning Worship service (without Communion) and Murray will be preaching.  You will need to fill in the details of the date and time to give to those you invite and keep the back of the card as a reminder of who you have invited so that you can pray for them.  Following the service Murray will start another  Questions! Questions! Series on Wednesday 9th October at 7.30 pm in Church.

PRAYER DAY 2013 On Saturday 14th September from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm, we will be holding a Prayer Day “Meeting God in the Natural World” at Longshaw Moorland Discovery Centre (which is close to Fox House & can be found on your Sat Nav at S11 7TZ). The cost is £5.00 each: including drinks, but not lunch or car parking. The day will include time for silent prayer and will end with a simple Communion Service.

FUTURE MESSY CHURCH Autumn & Winter dates – this Saturday 7th Sept, then 19th Oct – Harvest Messy Church, 14th Dec – Christingle Messy Church (- all Saturdays  from 10am - 12.30pm) including lunch. Do invite children and parents & carers and if you can help, please let Sarah, Pete or Ann know.

FROM GAIL If anyone can come to support Gail when she is authorised as a parish evangelist at Doncaster Minster on Saturday 21st September at 11am, please let Gail know as she is thinking about getting a coach and sharing with St Chad's, depending on numbers. Gail would also like to thank everyone for their help, support, encouragement and prayers as she has been training. If anyone wants to know about her training, Gail will be very happy to share more.

M.U.
St Paul’s & St James’ M.U. AGM is on Wed 11th Sept.
Diaries & calendars for 2014 can now be ordered. Please see Jacqui as soon as possible.
SHEFFIELD CATHEDRAL HERITAGE DAY on Saturday 14th September from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm. There will be Tudor Musicians playing and children’s activities. Special walkways will enable visitors to see the alterations and developments to the Cathedral. Come and support your Diocesan Mothers’ Union. M.U. members – please see Jacqui if you can help with hospitality for a while? (Serving refreshments on the produce stall, as well as baking scones and cakes.) Please also note: unfortunately, this is the same date as our Prayer Day at Longshaw.

DRONFIELD GENQUIP BAND is pleased to announce forthcoming concerts on Sat 9th Nov at 7.30 pm and Sat 21st Dec at 7.30 pm. Please see the MP Notice Board for information regarding ticket sales and venues or call Francis Hargate on 07904297174 or 0114 2484898.

Mike’s Ministry: No engagements this week

From Murray
I wanted to reflect a bit on my experiences last week on retreat.  People often look a bit aghast when I say that we are silent for three and a half days!  However, when you get used to retreats it is not very long - the days have a rhythm with meals all provided, time with the retreat leader, a walk and the two services each day.
You seem to need that long to unwind, rest up and have the energy to face the deep questions that we are so easily able to ignore in the hurly burly of life.  One of the key questions was put to us at Communion on the second day “what is your deepest desire”?  It is such a good question!  We all have all sorts of desires, but what are the really deep ones – often it takes a while to sift through and find that what may have first come to mind is not the deepest but holds a clue to something even deeper!
There were times when I just felt tired, blank and wondered what I was doing there, particularly on the last evening.  But the on the last morning God gave me two wonderful images to take home and inform my going on with him in the weeks to come.  -  Thanks for your support!
