From Murray  What a weekend!
It was great that so many of us were able to go to Doncaster on Saturday for Gail’s licensing as a Parish Evangelist.  Doncaster Minister is a huge Victorian gothic edifice with amazing stained glass.  It was just right for all the families and supporters of the Readers, Pastoral Workers, Evangelist, Worship Leaders and Children’s Workers who were licensed.  Steven, Bishop of Sheffield led the service with his usual warmth and good humour and took great care to affirm each person in their particular ministry.  He symbolically prayed for each by anointing their hands with oil – praying that God’s Holy Spirit would empower and infuse all that they put their hands to do.  The Bishop’s sermon was well crafted and very challenging as he urged us all to give ourselves more fully to God’s service.  I hope all who attended will feel affirmed in all that they do to serve God here at St Paul’s and that they may be open to new ways in which God might be calling them to serve or to deepen the ministry they already exercise.

Then on Monday night we had a great time up at St James’ Norton for the Confirmation of three from St James’ five from St Chad’s (including one who was also Baptised), two from Christ Church Endcliffe and last but not least Jon, Glynis and Russell from St Paul’s.  Peter, Bishop of Doncaster was on great form, starting off the service by talking about the    X Factor and going on to encourage us all in our ministries within the church and especially our taking the good news of God’s love out to those beyond the church.  Again I was impressed by the care the Bishop took as he prayed for each of the candidates as he Confirmed them and reminded them of their Baptism vows.

This is what we are about as a church – helping people to grow in faith so that they can serve God more effectively and welcoming new people into the family of God’s church.
